Can You Have More Than One Shopify Store?

Can you have more than one Shopify store?

If you’re currently on Shopify, you may wonder if the platform supports this dream scenario: Can you run more than one Shopify store from the same admin?

Among the many reasons e-commerce rocks, we have another one to add to your list: Launching a second business location is as smooth as butter. Think about it — no hiring, renting, or buying extra equipment. And Shopify supports this approach.

Can You Have More Than One Store on Shopify?

You can create as many Shopify stores as you want. Each one gets its own website that you can customize and populate with products. It’s fairly common for successful Shopify entrepreneurs to run more than one store.

The Shopify store switcher makes it easy to tab between all of your brands from the same admin. For this to work, however, you need to use the same email address when registering each new store.

How Many Shopify Stores Can You Have on One Account?

When you first sign up for Shopify, you have to provide an email address and a password. This becomes your Shopify ID. With this ID, you can have multiple Shopify stores;

however, each store will have its own store account.

In practice, this is what the drop-down list would look like:

  • Shopify ID: example_jonathan_doe@gmail.com
  • Store 1: Taco Jeans
  • Store 2: Haute Sauce
  • Store 3: Lost Sock Company

When you’re logged into your admin, you can switch between stores in seconds. Each store has a unique website and inventory tracking.

How Do You Switch Between Stores on Shopify?

First, you have to verify your email address for every store account. After that, from your Shopify admin, just click on the name of your store. You should see a dropdown list with your other stores. Click on the one you want to manage.

Do You Need a Separate Shopify Subscription for Each Store?

What are the benefits of having more than one Shopify store?

Even though you can manage different stores with the same user ID, Shopify requires each store to have a subscription. The default is the same subscription tier as your main store.

If Taco Jeans has a Shopify Basic account for $25/month, you would pay an extra $50/month for Haute Sauce and Lost Sock Company, too. Having multiple stores under one Shopify ID is mainly about convenient management, not saving money.

What Are the Benefits of Operating Multiple Shopify Stores?

We don’t recommend launching a second store until your first has a solid customer base and revenue stream. This is important because focusing resources on building a strong foundation first ensures that your business is stable enough to support expansion. Afterward, running multiple stores can offer several benefits:

  • Appealing to different price points
  • Building a website for wholesale
  • Targeting a different audience
  • Taking advantage of opportunities while they’re hot
  • Taking your business international

By creating separate sub-brands, you can reach different customer segments more effectively with the ideal message, pricing, and products.

You Can Have More Than One Shopify Store … But You Don’t Need To

Would you prefer paying a single Shopify subscription and managing all your inventory from the same place? Shopify apps can make it happen. For example, the right apps let you offer wholesale and direct-to-consumer pricing on the same products for different audiences.
